A Brief History of Coffee
Coffee is considered the most consumed beverage all over the world with its only important ingredient named caffeine that actually makes this beverage so favored.
Millions of people from around the world see the coffee beverage a great boost that one can have at the beginning of the day. This happens because it gives an energy rush and also creates an addiction that keep al these people hooked on it. But what is its history and what has made it be so favored over other beverages across the world?
The origins of coffee date back in past times in the land of Ethiopia although the people residing here didn’t use to drink it at all. Instead of diluting the beans after grinding them, Ethiopians wrapped them in animal fat and have them eaten for meal. The Turkish people were the first ones to grind the coffee beans and have it consumed as a coffee drink.
In Arabia it was illegal to export the coffee due to the fact that they were very found of these beans and didn’t want to share it with anybody else. With the 16th century coffee started to enter the European continent. John Smith is the one who has received the credits of having brought coffee to the North America in 1607. The “Boston Tea Party” held in 1773 left America without the tea beverage and replaced it with coffee being the main drink.
At present, coffee is known to be cultivated in various places, the number of countries reaching up to 50. The country known to count the first one in the coffee plantation is Brazil, followed by Columbia. It is known already that America is the country that drinks the most coffee as it consumes and purchases around 1/3 of the entire world’s coffee.
Coffee beans can grow only in warm and humid temperatures, therefore the countries located close to the equator are the most involved ones in the coffee plantations. The regions that are placed close to equator include Africa, Latin America, Asia/Pacific and Arabia.
There are coffee beans that are created as mixtures of different locations resulting as such in a special flavor that is unique. The most cultivated coffee beans are known as Arabica and Robusta type of beans and they are very cultivated due to the fact that people prefer these beans the most over other sorts. Arabica bean is known to be more expensive but is low in caffeine content whereas Robusta is inexpensive but is richer in caffeine content.
The caffeine that is contained in the coffee bean is known to be a stimulant, but it gives also a chemical factor that leads to the production of cortisol and adrenaline. Apart from this, there are people known to be allergic to the content of caffeine in the coffee. This is how it has been reached to the decaffeinated coffee format which has almost all of the caffeine removed from the coffee beans.
